Titanium Body Jewelry
Titanium is found in nature. Titanium is the most bio-compatible of all metals. It is due to its total resistance to attack by body fluids. Titanium has a very high boiling point. Titanium is also corrosion-resistant. Titanium is an extremely lightweight and elemental metal. Titanium is ductile in its pure form. The alloy of Titanium is used for body jewelry. It is 6AL4V, in which 60 parts are aluminum, and 40 parts are vanadium. Specifically 136 grade of Titanium is used for body jewelry. Anodizing produces a variety of colors in Titanium. Dyeing is not following in the titanium body jewelry. Anodizing is the process in which the jewelry is submerged in an electrolyte solution like titanium chloride. Oxide layer is created on the jewelry during anodizing due to which voltage is applied. The refraction of light through the oxide layer results in the color formation. The color intensity is decided by the thickness of the layer.
The anodized oxide is lost slowly or gradually. The color fades or changes when the anodized oxide wears away. The duration of the anodized oxide to wear off eventually depends on the thickness of the oxide layer. It also depends on the amount of friction and wear on the jewelry.
