14 Karat has only 58.3% of gold. This is acceptable for making jewelry. The strength of the jewelry will be good. However, the amount of gold would be less.
12 Karat has 50% of gold only, which is not recommended or acceptable for making gold jewelry.

One should be careful in washing the gold jewelry. Harsh chemicals are not recommended for cleaning them. For longer life of gold, water, either warm or cold can be used. It is recommended to store it in good bags or the package with which it was purchased.
